Nonprofit Skills-Enhancement Group

The Nonprofit Skills-Enhancement Group (NP SEG) is a resource for executive directors and professional advisers of nonprofit organizations. Our mission is to help group members efficiently increase their knowledge and sharpen their skills through group interaction and educational presentations.

NP SEG is led by Brian Rogers, a business lawyer at Evans & Dixon, and will meet twice per month for an hour and a half. The environment will be intimate, the presentations will be substantive and the discussions will be open and lively.

Executive Directors

Executive directors will benefit from interacting with their counterparts from other nonprofit organizations as well as learning from presentations given by members of the group and guest speakers. We plan to tackle such topics as:

  • Funding nonprofit organizations
  • Duties and functions of boards of directors
  • Best business practices
  • Compliance issues faced by nonprofits
  • Human resources challenges
  • Nonprofits as businesses competing for customers
  • The insurance needs of nonprofit organizations
  • Handling money and accounting practices
  • Leadership
  • Branding and marketing
  • Enhancing sales skills
  • Technology needs
  • Budgeting and planning

Advisers

Advisers of nonprofits will gain insights into the needs of nonprofit clients by interacting with and listening to the concerns of member executive directors. ("I believe there is no better way to improve your offerings than by listening to the concerns of those you serve, which is why I started the NP SEG." -- Brian Rogers.)

Schedule

The NPSEG is in its organizing and visioning phase. Those who are interested are invited to attend our organizational meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11. To be invited, contact Brian Rogers at 314-750-5078 or brogers@evans-dixon.com.
